[1] Description: Door Hardware & Closers– cleaning and maintenance.

Maintenance Frequency: Clean weekly. Maintain every 6 months.

CLEANING Wipe all door handles, push plates, panic bars and kick plates clean with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners on metal, wood or painted surfaces. Use stainless steel cleaner to clean any stainless steel hardware.


1. Inspect the door hardware and closers periodically to ensure proper functioning.
2. Residents should be encouraged to report problems as they are discovered so that they may be addressed promptly.
3. Repair or replace defective hardware as necessary.
4. Inspect fasteners and mounting hardware. Tighten or replace loose and missing fasteners.
5. Replace worn or defective mounting hardware.
6. Lubricate hinges, door knobs and latch mechanisms using a dry lubricant such as graphite powder.
7. Lubricate door closer arms using a manufacturer’s approved lubricant.
